Join welfare organisations that provide generous benefits for students
As looking after our students’ welfare is one of the main function of the student association, we are taking a bold step in our proposal of joining two recognised associations in Hong Kong which provide generous benefits for students. The two associations are the Hong Kong Federation of Student Union (HKFSU) and the Hong Kong Joint School Association of Students’ Union (HKJSASU). Both organisations have won the support of various companies in Hong Kong and obtained generous benefits for students. As we become a subsidiary member of both organisations, students can enjoy benefits varying from food to fashion in over 200 stores in Hong Kong. Seeking out welfare benefits for our students is one of the most significant way to demonstrate our commitment in enhancing the service provided by the Student Association.

Lower the profit margin of products and tickets
Another main purpose of a student association is to provide good quality and reasonably priced products and services to our students. The student association is a non-profit organisation, and we will do our utmost to maintain this reputation. In the past, whether it were the Christmas Ball tickets or Secretariat products, the price of such products and services sometimes can hardly be called affordable. Therefore, we aim at setting the price of products and services just slightly above the acquisition cost of such products and services. The association do not wish to shift the financial burden of students to their parents. We will continue to be student focused and provide students the most affordable, high quality products and services available.

Expand our social media exposure and influence

Nowadays, the social media is and has always been a part of students’ life. We as members of the Student Association are students as well, so we fully appreciate the importance of Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat etc. Therefore we plan to increase our social media presence. Besides the existing Facebook page of the Student Association, we intend to open a new Instagram account to remind students about upcoming events in which our students are involved. If students want to know about the results of yesterday’s football match, the upcoming music competitions of our school’s orchestras, or simply to check out the welfare access channels, we have them all covered. By providing students with monthly agenda of each board of the Student Association to the schedules of sports and music competitions, we aim to keep them updated at all times. We will show our unconditional support for all students regardless of the sports or cultural activities in which they participate. Every Lasallian will be given the same attention and care that they deserve because of the hard work and time that they have put into their extra-curricular activities.

Post and publicize monthly agenda of each board in social media

Lack of transparency of the Student Association’s actions has long been a debated issue. To substantially resolve the problem we plan to post and publicize monthly meeting minutes of each board on our Student Association webpage and Facebook and Instagram page in order to increase students’ awareness of the Association’s decisions. Students are the owners of the Student Association, hence they should have the right to be notified of each and every item discussed in our meetings. We seek to keep our fellow Lasallians in the loop by publishing policy statements which outline our short-term and long-term goals. By increasing the transparency of our work, we hope to cultivate closer connection between the students and the Student Association so that meaningful feedbacks and proposals could be introduced and discussed during meetings..

Reformation of Cheering team

In the past, the Cheering Team has definitely expanded students’ participation and exposed students to the Lasallian Spirit. However, we do not think it is a good idea to accept students into the Cheering Team through personal connections. We propose that F.1 to F.5 students can apply to become a member of the Cheering Team and be accepted after passing interviews. In addition, we propose that members of the Cheering Team be recognised for their effort and time they put in, with the inclusion of ‘Member of Cheering Team’ in members’ Student Activity Profile. More applicants will be accepted this year as F.1 & F.2 Class Representatives will not be included in the Cheering Team. The acceptance of applicants for the Cheering Team will be based on the amount of time they can offer in support of our athletes. Hence applicants with a less busy schedule, especially F.1 and F.2 students, will have a higher chance of joining the Cheering team.
Furthermore, there will be no training for Cheering Team members this year since such trainings are not productive, students shouting slogans more often does not necessarily mean their voice will get louder. In the first term, most cheering will be organised and led by F.5 Cheering Team committee members. However, in the second term, F.4 members will be required to lead the team as part of their leadership training. The presence of the Cheering Team at every sports competition is seen as a huge encouragement for athletes.
