PUBLICATIONS BOARD

Online Media - “The Lasallian”

With the use of the internet becoming more and more ubiquitous, the Publications Board proposes that “The Lasallian” be published online.  Students can access our articles through platforms such as our website and Facebook, a system similar to other media firms like “The Standard News” and “HK01”.  The Publications Board will cooperate with the IT Board and several other students who specialise in computer technology to create a website for the media, as well as an application system that would allow us to upload articles and photos onto the website.  After uploading the articles, a Facebook post about the article will also be posted automatically.  We aim to upload around 5 English articles and 2 Chinese articles every fortnight.  The online media would only operate in October, November, February, March and April, shying away from the two examination periods.

We see three benefits that would accrue from this policy.  Firstly, publishing online can increase the accessibility of articles since students would be able to read the articles from their phones or computers.  Secondly, the flexibility of publishing can be greatly improved. Articles can be published online more conveniently and in a more timely fashion, so that articles are still relevant when uploaded.  Finally, publishing online requires no costs as we need not spend money to print a newspaper or magazine.  This will effectively cut down the operating cost of the board.  The diverted funds can be used in other ways and in other boards for the benefit of our students.  The Publications Board believes that with a strict uploading schedule, as well as the cooperation and coordination of our committee members and working members, we would be able to provide fresh, new, and interesting articles of different genres and topics for the enjoyment of our students.

A Variety Type of Publications

We aim to extend the scope of articles from the current news reporting articles to a variety of article types such as opinions, professional sports, music, lifestyle, etc.  The policy will be implemented for both online projects and printed material.  The board will assign working members with a specific topic, such as sports, music, etc, who will do research on the assigned topic and submit an article regularly for uploading to our online website.  Publications in print, such as fiction and literary collections, will also be pursued.  We plan to publish an Issue Ex in the first term, which is a collection of articles from Old Boys, as well as a fictional novel in the second term, which will be written by members of the board.

Students Submission and Publications System

The Publications Board aims to create a platform in which students can share their thoughts and talents with their fellow schoolmates through writing.  A student submission and publication system will be setup so that students can submit articles of different genres and topics.  These articles will be published, either online or in print, if they are of good quality.
